This glazed earthenware hound is from the Eugene Fuller Memorial Collection (accession 64.75). Height approximately 16.8 cm. It is covered in white or pale yellow glaze with amber. The companion piece in the same collection (64.76, with blue glaze) is almost identical in size and is very likely its pair.
Independent Tang hound figures are far rarer than horses or camels. Most reflect Central Asian / Persian sighthound (Saluki-type, historically called “Persian dogs”) influence—slender bodies.
