The form of this ewer is exceptionally rare. While leather bag-shaped vessels became more commonly seen during the Song and Liao dynasties, it is noteworthy that this Tang example already demonstrates the same form executed in the sancai technique. This suggests a possible technical and aesthetic lineage between Tang sancai and later ceramic traditions. The original prototype was likely a metalwork piece in gold or silver, and the use of cobalt blue glaze in this miniature may indicate an association with courtly or imperial use.

This ewer takes the form of a leather bag. Despite its small size, the craftsmanship is meticulous down to the finest details. The body is richly adorned with a decorative scheme featuring brown and cobalt blue sancai glazes applied over a white ground, employing a reserve technique to create contrasting patterns. Miniature vessels of this kind are believed to have served as decorative objects or toys during the Tang dynasty.
