茶入筆記 vol.43 德川美術館：唐物茄子茶入 銘「茜屋」 ，茜屋吉松、德川家康、德川義直 - Tokugawa Museum, Karamono Chaire ‘Akaneya’ Heirloom by Tokugawa Ieyasu

此件「唐物茄子茶入」為傳世茄子形茶入中體量較大者，在《天正名物記》等史料中被記為「大茄子」。

其銘「茜屋」源自曾居於堺市的茶人茜屋吉松之舊藏。器身通體施以帶紅調之黑飴釉，釉色在部分流淌處產生如「兔毫斑」般的白濁景象，為茶人所重視之自然釉景。此茶入為等級極高的「大名物」，備受茶人推崇。

茶入通體施以近似栗色之黑飴釉，釉層均勻無斑駁，局部可見蛇蝎釉於肩部、腰部如雪崩般自然流淌，產生變化多端之釉景。根據《玩貨名物記》「唐物小壺」一節記載，此器列為條目之首，記為「茜屋茄子 尾張樣」，可見本器曾為德川御三家之一的尾張家所珍藏，為當時極負盛名之茄子茶入。

其名稱「茜屋」乃因其最初為堺地茶人茜屋吉松所持。據傳本器自茜屋吉松傳至德川家康（駿府御分物），再由其傳予初代尾張藩主德川義直。其流傳之詳見於《玩貨名物記》所載，為名物中的「大名物」級。

This "Karamono Nasu Chaire" (foreign-made eggplant-shaped tea caddy) is among the larger extant examples of its type and is referred to in Tenshō Meibutsuki and other historical records as a Ō-nasu ("Large Nasu"). The inscription Akane-yarefers to its former owner, Akane-ya Yoshimatsu, a tea practitioner who resided in Sakai. The vessel is covered overall in a reddish-tinged black ame glaze, with natural white flecking in areas where the glaze has pooled or run, creating a usuginu (hare’s fur) pattern admired for its aesthetic quality. Recognized as a Ō-meibutsu (“Great Name-Object”), this tea caddy has long been treasured in the world of chanoyu for its distinguished provenance and exceptional glaze scenery.

The caddy is uniformly coated in a lustrous black ame glaze with a warm chestnut undertone, over which streaks of jakatsu glaze have cascaded in places, creating dynamic glaze scenery reminiscent of an avalanche. It is recorded at the very top of the "Karamono Ko-tsubo" (Imported Small Jars) section in the Ganka Meibutsuki, under the entry: Akane-ya Nasuhi, Owari-sama, indicating its distinguished provenance in the Owari Tokugawa household, one of the three senior branches of the Tokugawa family.

The name Akane-ya derives from its early ownership by the tea practitioner Akane-ya Yoshimatsu of Sakai. According to tradition, the caddy passed from Yoshimatsu to Tokugawa Ieyasu (as part of the Suruga bequest), and subsequently to Tokugawa Yoshinao, the first Lord of the Owari Domain. This lineage is confirmed in the Ganka Meibutsuki, where it is listed as a prominent example of a Ō-meibutsu, or "Great Name-Object".

伝存する茄子茶入の中でも大振りな茶入で『天正名物記』などでは「大茄子」と記されています。銘は堺に住したとされる茶人・茜屋吉松が所持していたことに由来します。 本茶入は、赤みがかった黒飴釉が全体にかかった上に、雪崩れた箇所に兎の斑のような白濁が生じ、景色を成しています。大名物。

栗色に近い黒飴釉がむらなくかかり、ところどころ蛇蝎釉が雪崩ている。『玩貨名物記』｢唐物古壺｣の項目の筆頭に｢あかねやなすひ 尾張様｣と記されており、尾張家の茄子茶入として有名であったことがわかる。もと堺の人茜屋吉松が所持していたので、｢茜屋｣と呼ばれた。
