This heirloom Jian ware tea bowl from the Song dynasty exhibits an overall lustrous iridescence. Despite a restored rim with a cut finish, the piece remains remarkably attractive, with its flaws far outweighed by its qualities. Offered without reserve, it was sold for USD 16,510 (approximately HKD 130,000).
The rim, though slightly reduced, still measures 15.1 cm in diameter, suggesting that the original size likely exceeded 16 cm—placing it among the rarer category of large Jian tea bowls.
Comparable examples of larger Jian bowls are scarce. A notable reference can be found in the Jinhua City Museum, which houses a set of excavated Jian bowls with silver mounts; one particularly similar piece in that group exceeds 20 cm in diameter.
