本器為中國所製之唐物肩衝茶入,銘曰「松永」,傳為日本戰國武將松永彈正少弼久秀(1521–1577)之舊藏而得名。松永久秀以識器聞名於世,為將茶道具審美觀引入武家權力象徵的先驅之一。


器形屬「肩衝」樣式,但頗具特色:肩部柔和低垂,胴部近底處略為張開,底部收束穩定;甑部低矮挺拔,口緣向外翻卷,呈現明顯的「捻返」之感。通體施褐釉,略帶柿色光澤,幾無露胎。釉色在肩部交錯堆疊,呈現枇杷色與柿釉相混之斑斕肌理;其間可見一條釉流由肩滑落至底緣,呈灰色「露結」之姿,為茶人賞玩重點之一。胎土赤褐色,質地緻密且膏腴。畳付(底足)作板起式。胴部束紐清晰,位置偏高。


外箱蓋裏題有:「古之茶入,平瀬露香翁愛藏之器奈里 弌玄庵記之」,為大阪茶道具商戶田露朝所書。其所編《一玄庵版窯分け》「唐物肩衝」一節中亦收錄「松永」之名,為其傳世名器之有力佐證。

松永久秀旧蔵《唐物肩衝茶入 銘「松永」》を五重の箱に収める一部始終(福岡市美術館)


本器の銘は、戦国武将で茶器名物の蒐集で知られる松永久秀(15010-77)の所持に由来するもので、近代以降は平瀬露香、戸田一玄庵、松永耳庵(安左エ門)と渡り、松永コレクションの寄贈に伴って当館の所蔵となりました。  附属品は下記の通り。実に五重の箱に守られています。その殆どすべてを2020年4月3日まで開催されていた「茶道具の『次第』」展(1階・松永記念館室)にて陳列しました。

《唐物肩衝茶入 銘「松永」》傳為戰國武將松永久秀(1501–1577)舊藏,為其蒐集名物茶器之代表作之一。進入近代後,本器歷經平瀬露香、戶田一玄庵、以及松永耳庵(本名安左衛門)等茶人收藏,最終隨松永收藏品一併捐贈予福岡市美術館,成為該館之重要藏品。


本件茶入附有保存完善之五重箱,層層護持,體現其歷代藏家對此器之極高珍重。相關附屬物均於2020年4月3日以前,在本館一樓松永紀念館展室舉辦之「茶道具的『次第』」特展中一同公開展出。透過「次第」的展陳方式,觀者得以追溯茶器的傳承脈絡與美學制度,並領會茶道具之於武家與近代茶人心靈世界的特殊地位。



The name of this tea caddy, Matsunaga, derives from its association with the eminent Sengoku-period warlord Matsunaga Hisahide (1501–1577), renowned for his discerning eye in the collection of tea utensils and famed meibutsu objects. In later centuries, the chaire passed through the hands of notable tea connoisseurs such as Hirase Rōkō, Toda Ichigen-an, and finally Matsunaga Ji'an (also known as Anzaemon), a distinguished figure in modern Japanese tea culture. It eventually entered the Fukuoka Art Museum as part of a significant donation from the Matsunaga Collection.


Remarkably, the piece is encased in a five-tiered protective box system, each layer meticulously preserved. This elaborate housing underscores the reverence with which successive owners safeguarded the caddy, elevating it beyond function into the realm of ritual object. All associated components were publicly displayed during the special exhibition "The Protocols of Chanoyu Utensils" (Sadōgu no 'Shidai') held in the Matsunaga Memorial Room, 1st Floor, Fukuoka Art Museum, until April 3, 2020. The exhibit offered rare insight into the hierarchical presentation and transmission of tea wares, revealing the symbolic and cultural value such objects hold within the world of chanoyu.

This tea caddy, dating from the Ming dynasty, is a representative example of karamono (Chinese-made) katatsuki chaire. The piece is named Matsunaga after the renowned warlord Matsunaga Danjō Shōhitsu Hisahide (1521–1577), an early connoisseur of tea utensils and a significant patron of the chanoyu tradition among the warrior class.


The form exhibits a distinctive interpretation of the katatsuki shape: the shoulders slope gently, the body swells subtly near the base, and the vessel narrows gracefully at the foot. The neck is short and upright, with a sharply curled rim (twisted lip). A glossy brown glaze with a reddish-orange hue covers the entire surface, leaving very little of the clay body exposed. Around the shoulder, the glaze pools and layers in irregular patches, blending into a loquat-colored overtone. A single glaze trail descends from the shoulder to the foot, forming a silvery-gray streak known as namidare (dripping tear), a favored aesthetic feature among tea practitioners.

The clay is dense and fine-grained with a reddish tone. The base is finished with a board-raised (ita-okoshi) foot ring. A pronounced cord-mark (dōhimō) encircles the upper body at a slightly elevated position.


An inscription on the interior of the outer box lid reads: “An ancient chaire, formerly cherished by Hirase Rōkō. Recorded by Ichigen-an.” This note, attributed to the Osaka tea utensil merchant Toda Rokuchō, provides valuable provenance. The caddy is also listed under the “Karamono Katatsuki” category in the Ichigen-an-ban Kama Wake, further affirming its historical significance and identity.

松永の銘は、戦国武将で茶器名物の蒐集で知られる松永弾正少弼久秀の所持に由来する。姿はなで肩で腰のあたりをやや膨らませ裾すぼまりとしている。甑は低くすっきりと立ち上がって捻り返しが強い。柿色をおびた光沢のある褐釉を土見少なく掛け、肩周りには枇杷色がかった柿釉がむらむらと重なり、置形はその中の一条がなだれて裾まで延び灰色の露を結んでいる。胴紐はやや高めに明瞭に巡らす。胎土は赤みが強くねっとりとした緻密な土である。畳付きは板起し。外箱蓋裏には「古の茶入平瀬露香翁愛蔵之器奈里/弌玄庵 記之」と大阪の茶道具商‧戸田露朝が記しており、『一玄庵版窯分け』の「唐物肩衝」の項に「松永」の名をあげている。
