本器為日本江戶時代尾張藩之付家老——竹腰家初代竹腰正信所持,後由其獻予尾張德川家。此類茶入器形頸部修長,垂直上伸,胴體圓潤渾厚,故稱「丸壺」。本器即為丸壺式茶入之名品,長頸與飽滿之胴體比例協調,釉面自口沿至肩部有一道自然流釉痕,俗稱「雪崩」,為本作重要鑑賞處。屬「大名物」級別之唐物茶入。


This Chinese Karamono tea caddy, a prime example of the “marutsubo” (round jar) form, was originally owned by Takenokoshi Masanobu, the founding head of the Takenokoshi family, hereditary retainers of the Owari Domain. It was later presented as a gift to the Owari branch of the Tokugawa family. The "marutsubo" shape is characterized by its tall, upright neck and robust, rounded body, exemplified elegantly in this piece. A notable feature is the prominent glaze run resembling an “avalanche” (nabare), which flows naturally from the mouth to the shoulder—an aesthetic highlight in traditional connoisseurship. This piece is classified as a ō-Meibutsu, denoting its esteemed historical and aesthetic value.

整體造形樸實無華,線條率直而穩重。下腹隆起圓渾,胴中兩道隱現的沈線增添層次感,肩部轆轤痕繞行一周,上承挺拔之長頸,口沿以「捻返」技法收口,予人極佳之穩定感與量感。釉色以淡梨地釉為基底,覆以黑飴釉層層堆疊,分佈不均形成自然斑斕,口肩一帶釉料積聚處呈現近似蛇蝎色的釉溜,尤為賞心。


本器最初由尾張德川家之付家老竹腰山城守正晴(號宗謙,1634–1677)所藏,後進入尾張德川家歷代相傳。今藏於德川美術館。

尾張家の付家老・竹腰家初代竹腰正信が所持していた茶入で、同家から尾張徳川家へ献上されました。 茶入の中でも長く垂直に伸びる頸に丸い胴がついた茶入は「丸壺」と呼ばれ、本茶入はその名品です。長い頸と張った胴がよく調和しており、一条の雪崩が見どころとなっています。大名物。


形に癖がなく素直である。どっしりとした腰のふくらみ、胴中に走る二本の沈線、肩に回った轆轤目の上にがっしりと乗った頚は、口づくりの捻り返しに続いて、この上もない安定感と重量感を生み出している。総体に梨子地釉の上に黒飴釉がむらむらとかかり、置形には黒飴釉が口縁から肩に伝わり、釉溜まりが少々蛇蝎色を呈している。尾張徳川家付家老 竹腰山城守正晴(宗謙・1634~77)が所持し、のち尾張徳川家に献上した。

Karamono Marutsubo Chaire, Named “Tōmarutsubo”


This Chinese Karamono tea caddy, a prime example of the “marutsubo” (round jar) form, was originally owned by Takenokoshi Masanobu, the founding head of the Takenokoshi family, hereditary retainers of the Owari Domain. It was later presented as a gift to the Owari branch of the Tokugawa family.


The "marutsubo" shape is characterized by its tall, upright neck and robust, rounded body, exemplified elegantly in this piece. A notable feature is the prominent glaze run resembling an “avalanche” (nabare), which flows naturally from the mouth to the shoulder—an aesthetic highlight in traditional connoisseurship. This piece is classified as a ō-Meibutsu, denoting its esteemed historical and aesthetic value.



The form is unpretentious and direct, with a dignified swelling around the base. Two incised sunken lines encircle the middle of the body, and well-defined potter’s wheel marks (rokuro-me) form a band around the shoulder, above which sits the tall neck. The mouth rim is finished with a nerikaeshi (twisted-back lip), lending a remarkable sense of stability and mass. The surface glaze comprises a pear-skin base covered unevenly with black amber glaze. Where it gathers around the rim and shoulders, the glaze forms lustrous pools with tinges reminiscent of serpentinite—a hallmark of aged karamono ware.


This chaire was once in the collection of Takenokoshi Masaharu (Sōken, 1634–1677), the Owari-Tokugawa family's chief retainer, and was subsequently passed down through generations of the Tokugawa lineage. It is currently housed in the Tokugawa Art Museum.
