This Tang Sancai Figure of a Rider on Horseback sold for approximately HKD 90,000. Such “rider on horseback” figures were once highly prized by Western collectors, but have become less favored by Chinese collectors since they entered the market in force. The Henan Museum holds a similar example.
Although Tang Sancai rider figures survive in relatively large numbers, fine examples are scarce. This piece depicts a figure wearing a hat, both hands raised as if beating a drum. The horse is powerfully built with a robust physique, covered in a rich yellow glaze that conveys a strong imperial presence. Formerly from the Siyuan Tang collection.
