The provenance of this piece, with impeccable transmission through Fu K'o and Lu Qinzhai, is beyond reproach. This duck-shaped water dropper is exceptionally rare; it cannot be ruled out that it may be the only surviving example of its kind.
Judging from the bluish sheen on the glaze and the pure, creamy-white quality of the glaze body, it is most likely a product of the Five Dynasties period. The black dotting on the eyes suggests it could be a work from the Xing Kiln of the Tang or Five Dynasties era.
With an estimated value of US$20,000–30,000, it ultimately sold for US$320,000—more than sixteen times its low estimate. This result can truly be described as well-deserved.
In the future, important cultural relics with distinguished provenance, exceptional rarity, and strong artistic merit will continue to command significant premium in the market.
