拍賣筆記 vol.510 蘇富比倫敦2026:2.048萬英鎊售出,五代白釉嘟嚕瓶 - Sotheby’s London 2026, A White-Glazed Bottle Vase, Five Dynasties period, Sold for 20,480 GBP

White ceramic vase with a rounded body, isolated on a white background.

Featuring an exceptionally rare form, this piece exhibits tactile and clay characteristics indicative of Northern Ding or Xing ware. Its plump, robust silhouette, reminiscent of the Dulu (or Tulu) bottle, was a highly celebrated aesthetic during the Song dynasty. Having successfully undergone Thermoluminescence (TL) testing, any authenticity lingering doubts in the market have been effectively dispelled. For auction houses and collectors alike, resorting to TL testing is often a pragmatic necessity—not out of choice, but to forge a market consensus and neutralize malicious skepticism from detractors. Given that many contemporary Chinese collectors still predominantly rely on hearsay and narrative-driven acquisitions, leveraging scientific provenance to establish common ground and curb baseless rumors has become indispensable. Furthermore, this specific form may well be a precursor to iconic vessels like the Korean Moon Jar. Fetching a closing price of approximately HKD 200,000, this piece holds remarkable promise for future collection and appreciation. (SACA Insights, Nov 5, 2026)

Catalogue Note

Although the form of the present vessel appears to be unprecedented in published sources, the fine quality of its white clay-body, its globular form and unctuous white glaze closely connect it with the variety of splendid forms produced around the tenth to twelfth centuries in Northern China. Compare the related globular tuluping form of a Ding-glazed jar from the Okada Museum of Art, sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 4th September 2026, lot 2159; and a particularly closely related pomegranate-form jar in the Palace Museum, Beijing, attributed to the Ding kilns of the Five Dynasties period in The Complete Colleciton of Treasures of the Palace Museum. Porcelain of the Jin and Tang Dynasties, Hong Kong, 1996, pl. 224.

The dating of this lot is consistent with the results of a thermoluminescence test, Oxford Authentication Ltd., no. P125p53.
