The green glaze of Tang Sancai is one of the most vibrant and captivating varieties. It inherits the aesthetic sensibility of earlier dynasties, and scholars believe it may have been the first color to achieve successful expression in the development of sancai ware—originating from the “splashed glaze” experiments during the Northern Dynasties. By the Tang dynasty, the wax-resist technique had matured, allowing the glazes to flow with even greater fluidity and enchanting spontaneity.This exquisite piece is currently offered by the renowned London dealer Marchant Asian Art in their online gallery, priced at £45,000.

moulded with strings below the neck and around the upper body, the shoulders applied with a hexagonal spout, covered in white slip and scattered splashes of green glaze, terminating just above the base to expose the fine white body

Condition Report

Inspection with UV light reveals a ca. 5x3cm large area on the shoulder where the glaze has been retouched. Two small glaze flakes to the lower rim.
