Sothebys.com+1
近二十年內可資比較的高品質雍正檸檬黃釉盌並不多見:其一為 2024 年香港蘇富比「The Leshantang Collection (II) – Treasures of Chinese Art from the Tsai I-Ming Collection」中的一對雍正檸檬黃釉盌(徑 9.9cm,Lot 105),以 177.8 萬港元成交,遠超 40–60 萬港元估價(詳見該專場 Sotheby’s 官網及 Alain Truong 之成交記錄整理)。

Within the Yongzheng monochrome repertoire, lemon-yellow enamelled bowls exemplify the extremely narrow margin for error at the imperial kilns: a thinly potted body, a perfectly even antimoniate-based yellow enamel on the exterior, and a pristine white interior and base, all had to survive a low-firing regime where any flaw meant rejection. The present pair from the Okada Museum of Art (diam. 11.9 cm), handled by Kochukyo and published in Masterpieces of the Okada Museum of Art, vol. 2, no. 18, was offered in Sotheby’s Hong Kong sale “Masterpieces of Asian Art from the Okada Museum of Art” and realised HK$6,096,000, against a pre-sale estimate of HK$600,000–1,200,000 (see Sotheby’s online catalogue, Lot 1034).Sothebys.com+1
Over the past twenty years, very few closely comparable Yongzheng lemon-yellow bowls have appeared at auction. At Sotheby’s Hong Kong in 2024, a smaller pair from The Leshantang Collection (II) (diam. 9.9 cm, Lot 105) fetched HK$1,778,000 against an estimate of HK$400,000–600,000.Alain.R.Truong+1 In the single-bowl category, Christie’s New York sold an 11.2 cm yellow-enamelled Yongzheng bowl (Lot 1184) in 2013 for US$171,750,Christie's+1 while Christie’s Hong Kong achieved HK$475,000 in the same year for an 11.4 cm example.Alain.R.Truong More recently, Sotheby’s London has offered further Yongzheng lemon-yellow bowls in 2019 (“Imperial Porcelain: A Private Collection”) and 2025 (“Chinese Art”), including the bowl from the collection of Dr. Chan Chi Chin, yet their price levels remain markedly below the per-bowl value implied by the Okada pair.Sothebys.com+1 Taken together, this compact set of Sotheby’s and Christie’s results over the last two decades highlights how the Okada pair now occupies the upper tier of the market for Yongzheng lemon-yellow enamelled wares, and underscores the premium consistently paid for imperial monochromes that combine distinguished provenance, excellent condition and solid publication history.

Catalogue Note
Deceptively simple in both form and colour, lemon-yellow enamelled vessels are among the most technically demanding porcelains to produce. The creation of monochrome wares such as these required flawless precision in potting, glazing, and firing, as even the slightest imperfection would lead to the piece being discarded. Among the various monochrome glazes, yellow stands out as the only colour with an intrinsic imperial connotation. Although yellow-glazed wares had been crafted since the early Ming dynasty, they were primarily reserved for ceremonial purposes. During the Yongzheng reign, lemon-yellow vessels were developed to provide the court with an elegant alternative for everyday use. This distinctive yellow enamel, derived from antimoniate oxide, was a Yongzheng innovation. By combining antimoniate of iron with tin oxide, the result was an opaque and luminous yellow glaze, characterised by its vibrant and uniform tone.
