Circular jade disc with spiral patterns on a black background. The disc is beige with brown accents, featuring a central hole.

HKD 1.27 million for a 10 cm piece may exceed the typical market range, yet it remains entirely justifiable—indeed, even attractive—for the following reasons:

  1. Distinguished Provenance: The piece hails from the former collection of C.T. Loo (Lu Qinzhai), one of the most influential Chinese art dealers of the 20th century.

  2. Sir Joseph Hotung Collection: Sir Joseph Hotung was a prominent collector with a particular focus on jade. Notably, the British Museum houses a dedicated gallery named in his honor, underscoring his stature in the field.

  3. Documented Publications: The object is published twice—first in 1950 and again in 1995—providing robust documentation and scholarly anchoring across decades.

  4. Unquestionable Authenticity: The combined weight of provenance and publication history ensures the piece is free from concerns of forgery or authenticity disputes, which often plague the lower end of the market.

Given its impeccable provenance, unquestioned legitimacy, and rare quality within its category, the price of HKD 1.27 million is not only reasonable but represents a compelling value proposition for serious connoisseurs.
