Beige ceramic plaque with an ornate bird and floral design on a black background. No text. Intricate lines and details create an elegant look.

The works from the Northern Song Dynasty's Dengfeng kiln with pearl-ground decoration are rare, featuring motifs of phoenix birds that carry the lingering elegance of the Tang Empire. The subject matter reflects courtly tastes, and these types of pillows also represent the artistic lifestyle and aesthetic aspirations of the people during the Song Dynasty. The bottom bears ink inscriptions, with the characters "Zhang" and "Meng" still faintly visible.
