This Longquan kiln Black Clay Octagonal cup was identified as a Southern Song Guan cup at Christie's in 2023. In fact, this kind of wares is very rare, possibly produced in Longquan kiln Xikou, xiaomei kiln, is the highly sought after category of domestic dealers. But this craze also brings significant risks, many dealers risk their life for the so called holy grail of longquan. Typical cases aired by CCTV explained the legality and the ignoranece of legality by these dealers.

千里追宋瓷片段：「和唐某一起去江西景德鎮倒賣八方杯的小周說，2020年12月31號那天確實去賣了八方杯。警方馬上去景德鎮找顏某，顏某帶警察到了表弟家，警方找到一個青釉鬲式爐和八方杯。經鑒定，這兩件都是一級文物。最終確認為龍泉窯官窯標準器，代表當時的最高水平。」
國家一級文物（一級文物），是中華人民共和國政府對中國歷史上各時代重要實物、藝術品、文獻、手稿、圖書資料、代表性實物等可移動文物藏品中具有特別重要歷史、藝術、科學價值的代表性文物的定級，是「珍貴文物」三個級別中之最高等級。 博物館、圖書館和其他文物收藏單位對收藏的文物進行等級區分並設置藏品檔案，而省、自治區、直轄市人民政府文物行政主管部門則將其行政區域內的一級文物藏品檔案報國家文物局備案。
瓷器，時代確切，在藝術上或工藝上有特別重要價值的；在紀年或確切出土地點可作為斷代標準的；造型、紋飾、釉色等能反映時代風格和濃郁民族色彩的；有文獻記載的名瓷、歷代官窯及民窯的代表作。

The thinly potted faceted sides are slightly concave on the exterior and slightly convex on the interior. The cup is raised on a small ring foot and is covered overall with a crackled bluish grey-green glaze that continues on to the recessed base, and showing a Y-shaped gilt lacquer repair.
3 1/2 in. (9 cm.) diam., Japanese wood box
The delicate, octagonal form of this cup, raised on a short foot, can be found in various wares of the Song dynasty. A Ge cup of very similar form in the Palace Museum, Beijing, is illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 33 - Porcelain of the Song Dynasty (II), Hong Kong, 1996, no. 69, p. 76. See, also, a qingbai cup of this shape illustrated by J. Wirgin in Chinese Ceramics in the Carl Kempe Collection, Stockholm, 1964, p. 164, no. 530, and the Longquan celadon cup of this form in the collection of the Shanghai Museum illustrated in Longquan yao yanjiu (The Research of Longquan Kiln), Beijing, 2011, p. 53, pl. 5.
The faceted shape of this cup suggests that it was based on a metal prototype, such as a Southern Song gilt-silver octagonal cup illustrated in Zhongguo Meishu Quanji (The Great Treasure of Chinese Fine Arts), vol. 10: Gongyi Meishu Bian (Works of Art and Craft), Beijing, 1987, no. 95, p. 45, with full description on p. 27.
