根據繭山龍泉堂川島公之在唐三彩特展的文章中透露,這件器物是由繭山龍泉堂替日本藏家購得,然後又在近年轉入阿布扎比盧浮宮的收藏。阿布扎比盧浮宮的記錄顯示,入藏編號是LAD 2018.002,推測是2018年購入,也就是說日本藏家在手裡收藏了3年不到,就進入了阿布扎比館藏。
According to information disclosed by Mr.Kawashima of Mayuyama Ryusendo in his essay for the Tang sancai special exhibition, this vessel was originally acquired by Mayuyama Ryusendo on behalf of a Japanese private collector. In more recent years, it subsequently entered the collection of Louvre Abu Dhabi.
Records from the Louvre Abu Dhabi indicate that the accession number is LAD 2018.002, suggesting an acquisition date in 2018. This would mean that the Japanese collector held the piece for less than three years before it was transferred into the Abu Dhabi museum collection.

the elongated ovoid body rising from a spreading foot to a narrow cylindrical neck, surmounted by a garlic-form mouth extended to a phoenix-head spout, set on one side with a foliate handle, the exterior applied with crisply moulded floral crests framed by stylised palmettes, all between shaped floral cartouches above and petal-shaped lappets enclosing trefoil leaves below, the shoulder and neck each encircled by quadruple fillets, covered overall in a cream glaze splashed with amber and olive-green, Japanese wood box

Condition
This brightly glazed and crisply moulded ewer is in good condition with the exception of a 7 x 16mm., section of glaze loss to the middle of one of the palmettes and a 15 x 5mm., deep scratch and loss of glaze to the side of the same palmette; tiny glaze flakes around the base of the handle; a 4mm., diam., glaze flake to the lower body; a 20 x 2mm., rough diagonal line of pottery to the upper body; a 3 x 2cm., and a 5 x 5mm., diam., shallow chips to the edge of the foot; a slightly uneven foot; and minor glaze firing imperfections and glaze scratches.

本品形仿薩珊王朝金屬執壺,綴古希臘風格紋飾,反映早唐與外邦貿易及文化交流成果,頗具典型早唐藝術風範。學者Margaret Medley論述,隋朝(公元581-618年)煬帝與波斯薩珊王朝(公元224-651年)建交,促成兩國互呈珍品,波斯藝匠更因而遠赴唐都長安(今陝西省西安),詳見《Metalwork and Chinese Ceramics》倫敦,1972年,頁4。如此交流,對後世影響深遠,唐代工匠亦受其啟發。
本類鳳首執壺珍稀罕貴,現知僅只數例。三例圖載於《世界陶磁全集》,卷11,東京,1976年,彩圖版35,199及200,分別存於神戶市白鶴美術館、麻生太賀吉收藏及東京國立博物館;另見一例錄於《世界陶磁全集》,卷9,東京,1956年,圖版53。尚可參考一例,曾展於東方陶瓷學會《The Ceramic Art of China》,見展覽圖錄,維多利亞與艾爾伯特博物館,1971年,編號44。另一例出自安思遠典藏,售於紐約佳士得2015年3月17日,編號17。此外,亦可參考一青釉鳳首執壺作例,錄於《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集:晉唐瓷器》,香港,1996年,圖版172。
上述例作及本品均屬單獨塑形而成,貼花紋飾為個別模製後再貼於器身。這一類有別於另一款較常見的執壺,該壺類器身較扁,左右兩半分別模製後粘合而成,壺身紋飾與器型為同時印模而成。可比兩例,見《故宮博物院藏品大系·陶瓷編5·隋唐五代(二)》,北京及石家莊,2013年,圖版261-262;另一件例西安出土,錄於《中華國寶·陝西珍貴文物集成:唐三彩》,西安,1998年,頁30。鳳首執壺等中國瓷器溯源自外國雛本,詳見Jessica Rawson,,《World Art》,卷2,編號1,2012年3月,頁25-45 (中譯本:傑西卡·羅森,<由內象外:7-8世紀的唐代中國對於異國風格的造作>,《典藏讀天下:古美術》,第6期(2014.9),〈製作燦爛·唐三彩〉專輯。)
