馬克思·貝里(Max N. Berry)這批收藏中的唐三彩人物和雕塑的質量和珍惜度都十分引人注目,大部分帶有藍彩。這方面引領的傳承是英國的幾位傳奇經銷商,特別是John Berwald,Eskenazi等。這對藍釉仕女俑來自China Porcelain Company,是十分重要的早期紐約經銷商,同樣擁有值得信賴的中國高古藝術品位和水準。


此類器物來自級別至少為皇家的墓葬,唐三彩發現百年以來,經歷了西方的震撼和追捧後,在80年代末期達到頂峰。隨後在明清官窯流行的中國藏家氣氛中再度被埋沒,近期有趨勢的變動,相信唐三彩正處於觸底反彈的階段。目前3-5萬美元的估價仍然屬於絕對低位。(SACA觀察,2026.09.16)

PROVENANCE

The Chinese Porcelain Company, New York, 28 January 2004.


Beautifully modeled and richly dressed, these court ladies exhibit a rare combination of cobalt-blue with both green, cream, and amber glazes. One lady clasps a luxurious feather fan at her chest while the other lady elegantly positions herself with her hand at her hip. A similarly dressed figure, with the same face and coiffure in the Shaanxi Provincial Museum is illustrated in Zhongguo taoci quanji - 7 - Tang sancai, Shanghai, 1983, no. 55. A rare pair of blue and sancai-glazed pottery figures of court ladies, formerly in the Max N. Berry Collections was sold at Christie’s New York, 27 March 2026, lot 692.



Condition:


-The neck most likely have been restored, and possible restoration with overpainting to some parts of the hairdo

-With a few firing cracks and minor irregularities, a vent hole and a few firing cracks to the underside of base, all original to manufacture

-A few minor chips and nicks to the bottom edge, and a few small glaze flakes


Lady with yellow robe:

-A TL test hole to the underside of hairdo and to the underside of base

-One side of the base appears to have been slightly polished


Lady with bluish-green robe:

-A polished chip to the end of the proper left sleeve, and a restored chip to the tip of proper left shoe

-A glaze flake to the proper right arm, to the robe, and to the proper right shoe"
