Pink ceramic bowl with red speckles, set against a white background. The design is simple and smooth, evoking an elegant, serene mood.

This type of ware enjoys exceptionally high aesthetic recognition and intense market competition. Kangxi bean-red porcelain is a universally admired aesthetic that transcends both disciplines and eras. Having risen dramatically from an estimate of 42,000 to its present price, such pieces have remained consistently strong in recent years, attracting collectors from other categories. In addition, these cups are ideal for daily tea appreciation. In the current China-led market, these so-called “master’s cups” — perfect for drinking Pu’er or rock tea — offer significant emotional and sentimental value.

Mr Tse Siu Bong (1924-2017) was a founding member of The Kau Chi Society, Hong Kong. His private study, known to a select few as the Zhongyong Caotang, reflected his modest nature. Renowned for his generosity and broad interests, Mr Tse built an extensive porcelain collection spanning 5,000 years, featuring pieces from numerous kilns across northern and southern China. He valued the historical and cultural significance of these artefacts far above their commercial worth, driven by a desire to showcase the rich lineage of Chinese ceramics.
