The biggest current issues with Yaozhou ware are forgeries and artificial price manipulation—two major factors hindering its market development, yet unfortunately also representing inherent tendencies of human nature. However, this particular piece possesses a clear provenance, especially distinguished by its connection with Eskenazi Ltd, significantly alleviating the aforementioned concerns.

This vessel's key strengths lie in its fluid and skillful carving and its classic olive-green glaze—making it an exemplary piece for beginners seeking to familiarize themselves with authentic Yaozhou ware's iconic carving style and glaze color. Its aesthetic appeal and assured quality make it a reliable choice for both appreciation and study.

Finely potted with broad gently curving sides rising from a short, slightly spreading foot to an everted rim, deftly carved in the well with a blossoming peony mantled by scrolling foliage, the fine incisions suggesting veins on the petals and leaves, covered in a rich olive-green glaze pooling to a darker tone in the recessed areas, box. 19.8cm (7 6/8in) diam. (2).
