Ceramic vase with two small handles, featuring a brown, black, and beige marbled pattern. Set against a plain white background.

This type of ware, formerly misidentified as Lushan kiln products and now attributed to the Jiaxian kilns in Henan, represents one of the finest examples of Tang dynasty splashed-glaze stoneware (huaci). Surviving pieces are relatively rare. The body is made of finer clay, allowing for thinner and more delicate walls. Although the glaze layer is thin, it exhibits subtle variations in thickness and tone, with vivid blue splashes gracefully merging into a sky-blue (tianqing) ground—an outstanding artistic achievement that marks it as a high-quality representative of Tang splashed-glaze ceramics. Prior to 2020, due to the lack of concrete archaeological evidence, these wares were largely overlooked by the market.
