Small in size, this piece is said to have come from a North American collection, acquired in Japan before 2000. The Cizhou kilns produced wares in great quantity, yet fine examples are by no means lacking. Bottles of this type are known in some numbers, and this recent strong result is likely to further stimulate the market for similar works. In recent years, appreciation for the aesthetic of the Cizhou kilns of Julu County has deepened. These vessels, representing the spontaneous and unrestrained aesthetic spirit of the Northern Song popular culture, are increasingly attracting the attention of discerning collectors.
